SWELL (Pre-Tour Show)

SWELL 2023

Under the name “Sunshine Everyday Tour”, four members of the very first line-ups of the American band SWELL come together one more time to honor their singer David Freel, who died in 2022. Expect classics from their first four albums, which were released between 1990 and 1997: Swell, …Well?, 41 and Too Many Days Without Thinking with the Duyster hit “What I Always Wanted”.

SWELL was born in San Francisco in 1989, in the wake of The Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, and is one of the more underrated gems of American indie rock. The band around David Freel was particularly active in the 1990s, with a succession of releases and tours. However, the great success failed to materialize, completely undeservedly. Even though SWELL could count on a lot of praise from critics and fans, the general public never completely succumbed to the laidback style of the Americans. David Freel passed away in April last year at the age of 64. Co-founder Sean Kirkpatrick and band members Monte Vallier, John Dettman-Lytle and Nico Wenner then decided to honor their frontman with what might be their last SWELL tour.

They will give the official kick-off for a tour that will take them to Germany, France and the Netherlands on Sunday 9 April at the Botanique in Brussels. Before that they are for an exclusive try-out in the Hnita-Hoeve, where SWELL was already on stage in 2008.
